Insights from the Women of Consumer Choice Award

Here’s what the women at Consumer Choice Award had to share about career success, confidence, and growth.

Owning your expertise and speaking up with confidence. One of the biggest challenges women often face in the workplace is the tendency to hold back—waiting for the perfect moment to share an idea, for someone to invite them into the conversation, or for complete certainty before offering input. But the truth is, if you’re in the room, you belong there. Your knowledge, experience, and perspective are valuable, and you don’t need permission to contribute. Speaking up is not about being the loudest in the room, it’s about contributing meaningfully and ensuring your ideas are recognized. Trust that you have something valuable to say, and make sure that it’s heard.”
— Kate Cross, Director of Operations

Your unique perspective is your strength. Never underestimate the power of your voice—trust yourself, and don’t hesitate to take up space in any room you enter.
— Makenzie Adams, Account Manager – Western Canada

Don’t fear making decisions or mistakes. Embrace each mistake as a lesson, because every experience helps you grow into the person you’re meant to be. Challenges are opportunities to bring out our best selves. With hard work, dedication, and commitment, we thrive.
— Nicole Mitchell, Market Development Manager

One piece of advice that’s guided me is to trust your instincts and speak up—your voice brings a unique perspective to the table. Working while managing a chronic illness has taught me the importance of setting boundaries, listening to my body, and giving myself grace on tougher days. It’s a reminder that success doesn’t always look the same every day—and that’s okay.
— Reine Hodroj, Account Manager

Being kind and providing motivation for yourself and your team members—it’s important that we as women stick together and uplift one another.
— Sophia McFadden, Account Manager

Organize your work each day. Know yourself and how you work so you tackle the more time-consuming or important tasks during your strongest time of day. Also, find balance in yourself so it’s not constantly stressful. Mix things up so there are busy and more relaxed times in your day. Take your breaks—they are important!
— Debbie Brooks, Office Administrator

Always be learning. No matter how long you’ve been in business, the best advice is to keep learning. Taking courses keeps the mind fresh and reminds us that we don’t know what we don’t know.”
— Simone Constantin, Alberta Market Development Manager

It is well known that growth and comfort do not coexist. For women in the workplace, I believe this idea emphasizes the importance of asking questions, speaking out, and having a voice in your organization to set yourself up for long-term success.
— Maxine Théorêt, Bilingual Account and Events Manager

A positive work culture is so important. Always be kind and always respect each other. You don’t always know someone else’s story or struggles. Always be learning and work hard.
— Monique Duperreault, Market Development Manager

Don’t overthink it—if you have an idea, share it! Your ideas are valuable, and contributing to conversations doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be honest and authentic. Trust yourself and speak up—you never know how your perspective can make a difference.
— Sumi Saleh, Communications Manager
